EN - After HORSES IN MOTION (1878), Edward Muybridge continued innovate. He decided to explore the sport of boxing. He put two athletes together in a fight and filmed the sequences. He used a different system from the first film. He replaced the distance and by using a watch regulated intervals and he managed to capture the movement. This photographic research resulted in this beautiful sequence of the human body in action. The aim was to learn about movement in different sports.
A curious fact about ATHLETES. BOXING is that during a lecture at the British Institute in 1882, the Prince of Wales specifically asked Muybridge for pictures of boxing. Muybridge was grateful for the request, and although he considered them less educational value, they were generally very entertaining. And even today we can watch these pictures on loop and be fascinated by these movements at the end of the century XIX.
XIX.
