The plot follows the iconic Tramp character, who finds a lucky horseshoe and decides to try his luck as a boxer. Hiding the horseshoe in his glove, he manages to defeat a professional fighter and become the new champion of the gym.
The film features Chaplin's characteristic physical humour and highly comical scenes. There is also a romance with the trainer's daughter, as well as a gambler trying to convince him to throw the fight. While not one of Chaplin's most well-known films, The Champion showcases his storytelling talent and features a sporting backdrop.
